I am NOT a foodie, and in fact I am a rather simple and picky eater.  But one simply has to talk about the food.  I found plenty to eat in Sicily.  Included in the tour were four lunches and four dinners, plus a few goodies.  Rest assured, you will eat very well on this tour.

Sicilian food,  all Italian food or all good food in general, focuses on what's fresh and available. I am a 3rd generation Italian American, lived with my native Italian grandmother as a child, and while some elements pervade all Italian food, her Northern style, or even my father's Napoletano style, were different from what we ate in Sicily.  The freshest food elements in Sicily were fish and seafood, including anchovies, mussels, clams, octopus, squid, tomatoes, lemons, blood oranges, almonds, olives, olive oil, pasta, cheeses.  Eggplant (melanzana) is included in some form in many meals.  Specialties include caponata, sun-dried tomatoes, lots of fish and seafood preps, and the ubiquitous arancina/arancino. Oh and the best pizza in the world.  Simple pizza, tomato, basil, cheese, maybe onions and anchovies.  And plenty of good wine.  Remember you cannot drink water with Sicilian fish.  You must drink wine.  It's a rule.  The fish came out of water, they do not want to go back into the water.  There is only one kind of salad dressing, oil and vinegar.  An no cappucino after 11 am.  Do not ask for a latte, or you will get a cup of milk.  And never, ever, EVER cut your spaghetti, else risk being branded the dreaded "spaghetti killer".

My favorite dish - Pasta alla Norma.
